The "Game-Changer" for Fair Participation (No Account Needed!)

We’ve all seen that one student who always has their hand up—and the five others who are trying to become invisible.

If you want to boost engagement without the stress of "cold calling," it’s time to meet the digital version of popsicle sticks: Wheel of Names.

What is it?

Wheel of Names is a free, web-based spinner. You type in your students' names, click the wheel, and it spins with a satisfying "click-click-click" sound before landing on a winner.

The Best Part: It saves your sanity. No more losing physical popsicle sticks or being accused of "picking favorites." The wheel is the ultimate unbiased judge!

3 Creative Ways to Use the Wheel

It’s not just for picking who goes first. Here are three ways to use it for actual learning:

  • The "Vocabulary Voyager": Instead of names, type in your weekly vocabulary words. Spin the wheel! Whatever word it lands on, the class has to act out the definition or use it in a sentence.

  • The "Task Master" for Groups: Struggling to assign roles? Put tasks like Scribe, Timekeeper, Speaker, and Leader on the wheel. Spin it to see which group member takes on which role.

  • The "Mystery Prize" Motivator: Put small, free rewards on the wheel (e.g., Sit in the teacher's chair, 5 minutes of free time, Wear a hat in class). It’s a high-energy way to wrap up a Friday afternoon.

Try This Tomorrow

Let’s keep it simple:

2. Type your class roster into the box on the right.

3. Use it one time to pick a student to lead the line or answer a "hook" question.

Bonus Tip: You can even add images to the wheel if your students aren't reading yet!
